Effects of the Ventilation System by Using Jet Fans during a Fire in Road Tunnels

People inside a road tunnel may be in grave danger if there is fire. When fire developing, mechanical ventilation can crucial protecting occupants and facilitating the arrival of emergency crews. In this paper, new calculation method that analyze evolution airflow illustrated. An assumed an 800 m long one-way Northern Italy was dealt with using developed method. Subsequently, acquired results were successfully compared to those numerical modeling. By varying position studied tunnel, it then possible detect situations high risk for people when located at limited distance from upstream entrance. The newly procedure able verify how simple different positioning pairs jet fans eliminate risks intent on escaping towards entrance reached by fumes (back-layering phenomenon). It therefore useful tool improve fan design tunnels accordance safety principles.
